Configuring Apple Mail for IMAP

 

1.       Launch Apple Mail

2.       Add a mail account:

·         If you haven’t configured any other account, you will be prompted to add an account. Click on Add Other Mail Account and then continue.

·         Otherwise, go to Mail Menu and click on Add Account.

3.       Enter the following:

·         Full Name: The name you want displayed when you send an email.

·         Email Address: randalla@stanford.edu

·         Password: Your SunetID password

·         Click Create when done.

4.       You will get a message saying that the account must be manually configured. Click Next.

5.       Enter the following for the incoming mail server information:

 

·         Account Type: IMAP

·         Mail Server: SunetID.pobox.stanford.edu

·         User Name: SunetID

·         Password: SunetID password

·         Click Next when done.

6.       Enter the following information for the outgoing mail server:

·         SMTP Server: smtp.stanford.edu

·         User Name: SunetID

·         Password: SunetID password

·         Click Create when done.

Adjust the configuration

 

You need to go to Mail Preferences to adjust your email settings.

 

1.       Launch Mac Mail

2.       In the Mail menu, click Preferences and then click Accounts.

3.       Select your Stanford account and verify the settings with your information.

4.       Click the drop down list for Outgoing Mail Server and choose Edit SMTP server list.

5.       In the outgoing server list, select smtp.stanford.edu and click on Advanced and verify the following settings:

·         User custom port: 465

·         Use Secure Sockets Layer SSL: checked

·         Authentication: Password

·         User Name: SunetID

·         Password: SunetID password

6.       Click OK to close the outgoing server list window.

 

7.       Click the Advanced tab and verify the following settings:

·         Include when automatically checking for new mail: checked

·         Automatically download all attachments: checked

·         IMAP Path Prefix: blank

·         Port: 993

·         Use SSL: checked

·         Authentication: Password

·         Use IDLE command if the server supports it: checked

8.       Close the Preferences window.

9.       If prompted to save your changes, click SAVE.
